Shakespeare in the Square
Shakespeare famously wrote that: “all the world’s a stage” but more specifically, this summer, the stage is coming to E3.
On Friday 20th June, not-for-profit touring theatre company, Shakespeare in the Squares, will bring The Taming of the Shrew to Tredegar Square. Founded in 2010, Shakespeare in the Squares stages a play across London for one night in each venue every summer. Noticing that they were yet to perform in East London, we contacted them to suggest the Square. And so it is that, for one night only, we'll be less Mile End Old Town and more Padua, Italy. Fingers crossed for the Italian weather too. ☀️☀️
The theatre company aims to create an intimate experience for each community they perform in. Casting talented actors who often go on to perform in mainstream companies, performances are family-friendly and make great use of the green spaces they're set in.
Bring a picnic from 5:30pm and gather with friends and family to enjoy an evening of theatre in the square. Seating is provided but is unreserved. There will be a brief interval and the play will finish by 9.30pm. MEOTRA will be running a well-stocked bar with all proceeds going to future free events.
Tickets are available from Shakespeare in the Squares directly here. Please note that there is an early bird discount until April 21st. We have also negotiated an additional discount of 20 percent off all adult tickets. This is available for the first 30 tickets purchased. Please use the code ALL20 at the checkout. For low income families, there will be 20 free tickets available. These are being given away in a ballot run by Tower Hamlets Council. Please contact them for more information.
We hope to see you and your friends for an evening of Shakespeare and picnics in the Square. 🎭🧺
